According to the PingWest news, a Weibo user found 538 million Weibo user information was sold on the darknet, of which 172 million are basic account information and priced at 0.177 Bitcoin. The account information includes user ID, number of Weibo posts, number of followers, number of following, gender, geographic location, etc.

Luo Shiyao, the security director of Weibo, responded that the leaked mobile phone numbers were matched through the upload portal of address books in 2019, and the rest of the information was obtained online. Weibo responded that the information match was the nickname, no connection with ID card, which has no impact on Weibo service. Weibo has strengthened security policies immediately and will continue to strengthen cyber security in the future. Weibo provides "search friends in the address book" service after getting authorization from users. And there is no service for “checking mobile phone numbers based on user nicknames”.
